Count a graha’s aspects from the graha itself, including its occupied sign as one. Then check the receiving house and its lord separately. An aspect reaches a specific destination; it does not automatically reach that house’s lord wherever the lord is placed. A favorable aspect is help, not an automatic rescue of a badly damaged house.

This guide uses the seven visible grahas’ full Parashari aspects in a whole-sign chart. It answers the calculation first, then shows how two common counting mistakes change the interpretation.

Full graha-drishti table

The scheme follows P. V. R. Narasimha Rao, Vedic Astrology: An Integrated Approach, section 10.2.

Graha Full aspects counted from its own sign/house
Sun 7th
Moon 7th
Mercury 7th
Venus 7th
Mars 4th, 7th, 8th
Jupiter 5th, 7th, 9th
Saturn 3rd, 7th, 10th

These are destinations, not percentage scores for life outcomes. Fractional drik-bala calculations, Jaimini rashi-drishti and Tajika aspects are separate methods; do not add their rules silently to this table. The nearby textbook sections distinguish graha and rashi aspects.

Rahu and Ketu are deliberately outside this seven-graha table. Their aspect conventions differ, and a complete node scheme has not been specified here. InsightAstrology’s owner uses a particular Ketu fifth-aspect example in the Jupiter ascendant article; that named convention does not make every possible node-aspect table universal.

Calculate the destination inclusively

Number the occupied natal houses 1–12. If the sender is in house h and its aspect number is a, the destination is:

destination = ((h + a − 2) modulo 12) + 1

The subtraction handles inclusive counting and the final addition returns houses 1–12. For a target in house t, the relative distance is ((t − h) modulo 12) + 1. Compare that distance with the sender’s aspect list.

For Jupiter in the ninth, its fifth aspect reaches the first, seventh reaches the third, and ninth reaches the fifth. The ninth-house Jupiter article discusses what those receiving houses can use; the arithmetic alone does not establish their results.

Two reciprocal-aspect mistakes

Saturn fourth, Mars sixth: one way only

Suppose Saturn occupies natal house four and Mars occupies six.

Sender Its full destinations Does it reach the other graha?
Saturn in 4 6, 10, 1 Yes: Mars in 6
Mars in 6 9, 12, 1 No: Saturn in 4 is absent

Mars cannot count backwards to make its fourth aspect land on Saturn. This is Saturn influencing Mars, not a mutual Mars–Saturn aspect under the stated full scheme. Interpret the pressure on Mars and the house it occupies; do not add a nonexistent return influence merely because the planets have a difficult natural relationship.

Saturn fourth, Mars first: mutual special aspects

Now move Mars to house one while leaving Saturn in four.

Sender Relevant full aspect Receiver
Saturn in 4 10th → natal 1 Mars
Mars in 1 4th → natal 4 Saturn

This pair is mutual, through different special aspects. Therefore “only seventh aspects can ever be reciprocal” is also wrong. The seventh-to-seventh relationship is an easy mutual case; it is not the only possible one when the two senders have different aspect lists.

The two configurations demand different readings. In the second, both planets influence the other’s occupied house. Dignity, actual ownership and the affected house lords decide whether that interaction supports disciplined action or obstructs it. The geometry establishes the relationship; it does not give every Mars–Saturn pair the same fate.

Relative aspect number is not the natal house number

Take Aries rising with Mars in Capricorn, natal house ten. Mars’ fourth, seventh and eighth aspects reach:

Relative aspect from Mars Actual natal destination Natal topic
4th Aries, first house Self and personal action
7th Cancer, fourth house Home, property and domestic conditions
8th Leo, fifth house Learning, children and creative judgment

Its eighth aspect reaches natal fifth, not natal eighth. Calling every eighth aspect a direct eighth-house/shared-wealth influence would answer the wrong question. Likewise, Jupiter’s fifth aspect is not always to the natal fifth, and Saturn’s tenth aspect is not always to the natal tenth.

A house aspect does not automatically aspect its lord

In this same example, place Moon in Sagittarius, natal house nine. Moon rules Cancer, the fourth house. Mars reaches Cancer, but its destination list is 1, 4, 5; Sagittarius/ninth is not on it.

So Mars aspects the fourth house and any graha actually occupying that destination. It does not directly aspect Moon in Sagittarius under this scheme. Moon’s condition still matters because Moon carries the fourth-house affairs. “Relevant to the result” and “directly receiving this aspect” are different relationships.

This is a labelled hypothetical calculation, not a client case. See the Mars placement hub for the occupied-house question and Saturn’s hub for its different special-aspect reach.

My verdict: support must reach something capable of using it

For Jupiter, the owner’s receiving-house method is direct: Jupiter’s protective aspect cannot fully compensate for a severely weakened receiving-house lord. If the lord and occupants are repeatedly damaged without useful help, judge realization as poor even when the aspect exists. Do not promise success merely because Jupiter “looks” at the house.

For example, Aries-Lagna Jupiter reaches Leo/fifth. The owner treats a badly weakened Sun, Leo’s lord, as a limit on how much fifth-house support can manifest. Sun in Virgo/sixth, Scorpio/eighth or Pisces/twelfth is part of the owner’s difficult configuration; location alone does not prove every Sun there is severely weak. Add its actual dignity, affliction and available support before making the stronger judgment.

A capable fifth lord and supported occupants let the help become usable learning or creative judgment. Severe repeated fifth/lord weakness reduces that promise. A separate, consequential progeny conclusion needs the additional factors developed in the Jupiter fifth-house article; the presence of an aspect alone is not that conclusion.

In applying Jupiter’s method, examine its nakshatra, sign comfort, nakshatra-lord condition and weakening conjunctions, followed by receiving occupants and lords. Both of Jupiter’s actual house ownerships remain relevant. The owner’s elemental preference for receiving signs is water strongest, fire favorable, air neutral, earth least receptive, modified by those conditions. That is attributed practitioner weighting, not the formal dignity table or a universal strength percentage.

This gives a decisive geometry verdict and a conditional outcome verdict. Counted destinations and reciprocal tests are exact within the convention. The ability to manifest support depends on named sender and receiver conditions; a severely damaged receiver is not rescued simply by a favorable line on a chart.

Use the Jupiter hub for placement-specific judgments, debilitation and combustion for separate strength tests, and planetary friendships for another directional relationship. The foundations path connects the vocabulary. Full aspect arithmetic is sourced; worked examples are independently checked; the receiving-house hierarchy and elemental preference are the owner’s interpretation, without invented frequencies or guarantees.
